“I put lipstick on a pig,” he said. “I feel a deep sense of remorse that I contributed to presenting Trump in a way that brought him wider attention and made him more appealing than he is.” He went on, “I genuinely believe that if Trump wins and gets the nuclear codes there is an excellent possibility it will lead to the end of civilization.”
If he were writing “The Art of the Deal” today, Schwartz said, it would be a very different book with a very different title. Asked what he would call it, he answered, “The Sociopath.”
Tony Schwartz is being interviewed in this week’s New Yorker. It is a must read.
Ooooh, nice!

Wow. I’ll definitely check this out. “Lipstick on a pig.” Great, and true line.

Yes. But I read it and get angry. It is people like Schwartz who created this monster.

Yes. Too true. He helped make the monster and now it can’t be controlled. Too little too late now to point out tRump is a sociopath. He shoulda done that in the first place.

Right? Now he’s giving THIS YEAR’s royalties from the book to charities that serve the groups Trump maligns.
But the fact is that he’s richly benefitted from writing and peddling this stack of dangerous lies, squashing his conscience along the way, even though, as he says himself, he was never poor and forced to sell his soul to survive (although he does make it sound like it when he provides his self-justifications there).
I absolutely hold the American journalists and media types responsible for the rise of Trump. They made him.
Without their fawning adulation, he’d be just some sleazy but largely unknown real estate dealer / casino operator, one of many, without much influence on the fate of the world.
Only now they are all discovering their long-buried conscience, after making careers, in part at least, from their association with him. A bit too late for the rest of us, unfortunately.

I’m about 3/4 of the way through reading this. Yuk! True, Schwartz sold himself to the devil, but he does provide firsthand perspectives in this piece and validates much of what most of us already knew/thought. Too bad it’s too little too late.

I agree, “sociopath.”

Truly horrifying. No notion of what truth is, no interest in anything but himself and self-aggrandisement; thank you for sharing.

Had to share this: http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/elections/2016/07/18/fact-check-donald-trump-false-misleading-claims/87249350/
You know and I know and many of your readers know everything pointed out in this article and video are spot-on … but there are thousands and thousands who are totally and completely bamboozled by this man and his (inaccurate) “telling it like it is” demeanor.

Thanks for this, Nan. Facts do not matter to Trump’s supporters any more than they matter to Trump.
